摘要: Abuse of anabolic androgenic steroids (AASs) may be an aetiological factor in male infertility among recreational power athletes. They try to avoid AAS-induced deterioration spermatogenesis by combining doses human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) and/or antiestrogens with their AAS abuse. Eighteen healthy athletes using massive AASs were recruited for the study. Semen samples collected during abuse and 1.5 6 months after cessation also asked about reproductive activity six years At end cycle, sperm count was 33 +/- 49 x 10 (6) /ml (mean SD), only one subject had azoospermia. cycles, mean concentration 30 42 /ml, 77 70 /ml. There significant differences between sample drawn both (p = 0.05, repeated measures ANOVA). a positive correlation HCG dose cycle relative amount morphologically abnormal spermatozoa (r = 0.60, p < 0.01). The concomitant supraphysiological cause transient impairment on semen quality males, although is maintained this regimen despite prolonged AAS.
