Towards more effective decision support in materials and design engineering

摘要: Computer-based support of decision making, particularly during the early stages engineering design process, is not well developed. Designers mostly rely on their skill and experience, which often supplemented by procedures manuals. In an increasingly automated process this becoming regarded as impractical. There a need, therefore, to capture knowledge, structure it make accessible in form that can be readily interrogated used making problem solving. An approach modelling heuristics use database store information. This paper describes development computer-based guidelines called Designers' Electronic Guidebook for supporting materials engineering. The potential demonstrated through practical case study.
