摘要: AbstractStudies of trilled vocalizations provide a premiere illustration how performance constraints shape the evolution mating displays. In trill production, vocal tract mechanics impose trade-off between syllable repetition rate and frequency bandwidth, with most pronounced at higher values both parameters. Available evidence suggests that trills simultaneously maximize traits are more threatening to males or attractive females, consistent history sexual selection favoring high-performance trills. Here, we identify sampling limitation confounds detection description trade-offs. We reassess 70 data sets (from 26 published studies) show limitations afflict 63 these some degree.
