Healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists and nurses, are often confronted with patients who use over-the-counter (OTC) herbal medicinal products food supplements. While taking responsibility for one's own health treatment options is encouraged, many these based on limited (and sometimes inaccurate) information from non-scientific sources, such as the popular press internet. There a clear need to offer balanced, well-informed advice patients, yet number of studies have shown that, generally, conventionally trained practitioners consider their knowledge about supplements be weak. Phytopharmacy fills this gap, intended busy pharmacist, nurse, or doctor, well 'expert patient' students pharmacy medicine. It presents clear, practical concise monographs over hundred medicines plant-based Information provided in each monograph includes: Indications; Summary appraisal clinical pre-clinical evidence; Potential interactions; Contraindications; Possible adverse effects. An overview current regulatory framework also outlined, notably EU Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive. This stipulates that only licensed registered traditional (THRs), which assured quality safety, can now legally sold OTC.
