摘要: Substantial changes have been reported in both the cell-wall and lipid composition of a variety bacteria when these organisms were grown under conditions phosphate limitation. Similar detailed studies with yeasts not yet described, however. The major objective present work was therefore an analysis content components resulting from growth Saccharomyces cerevisiae NCYC 366 phosphate-limiting conditions. Phosphate-limited cells obtained by either batch or continuous culture yeast contained less total phosphorus than did medium optimum concentration phosphate. Detailed revealed complex although observed dramatic those described for bacteria. Walls prepared phosphate-limited had lower control cells. No evidence presence walls uronic acid succinyl residues they appear to contain increased proportion one more unidentified anionic components. chemostat-grown, carbohydrate this reflected considerably decreased glucan content. glucosamine only slightly affected however, while that protein increased. most striking change decrease sterol esters triacylglycerols. Phospholipid synthesis, overall, appeared be stimulated, leading phosphatidylethanolamine phosphatidylcholine. phosphatidylserine on other hand decreased. These 15.pid interpreted terms diminished population small large vesicles yeast. A secondary study investigate occurrence teichoic Candida intermedia then extend survey polymers species. Trichloroacetic extracts C. intermedia, utilis Sacch. subjected hydrolysis hydrolysates examined products characteristic glycerol acid. Traces v/ere found almost all hydrolysates, but identified hydrolysate extract intermedia. Glycerol diphosphate detected. Some synthesis polymeric product CDP-glycerol subcellular fractions results considered too equivocal support claim acids yeasts.
