Long-term biocompatibility of a corrodible peripheral iron stent in the porcine descending aorta.

摘要: Abstract Currently there are no biodegradable stents available for treatment of vascular obstructions in patients with congenital heart defects. This study was performed to evaluate the safety a corrodible stent produced from pure iron peripheral design (6–12 mm diameter) slotted tube similar commercially 316-L which served as control. Both were implanted into descending aorta 29 minipigs an overstretch injury without technical problems. Two animals died after implantation not related stent. The remaining 27 followed 1–360 days. Histomorphometry and quantitative angiography showed difference regard amount neointimal proliferation between stents. Histopathological examination heart, lung, spleen, liver, kidney para-aortic lymphatic nodes demonstrated signs overload or iron-related organ toxicity. Adjacent struts, evidence local toxicity due corrosion products. We conclude that is suitable metal production large-size degradable systemic A faster degradation rate, however, desirable further studies have focus on modification composition expedite process.
