摘要: A number of animal model studies have assessed the capacity long-term whole body gamma rays to affect life span. The initial goal such was establish equivalent a no observed adverse effects level (NOAEL) that would provide toxicological foundation for deriving an acceptable worker exposure standard. In course ‘tolerance threshold’, data emerged suggesting low dose rates/cumulative doses enhanced longevity in mice and guinea pigs both sexes. Extensive large scale follow-up investigations with other mouse strains rats revealed what appear be inter-strain/species differences response some models providing strong evidence increase longevity. subsequent positive were generally well designed, conducted used extensive numbers mice. all experiments displayed average span by 10–30% but not maximum potential. underlying mechanisms affecting apparent enhancement are believed result from stimulation hematopoietic immune systems following chronic injury bone marrow.
