Clinical significance of PCR-detected metastases in sentinel nodes of breast cancer patients: An interim report

摘要: 9516 Background: The presence of metastases in axillary lymph nodes (LN) is an important prognostic indicator breast cancer and provides staging information for treatment selection. Standard pathology fails to identify many patients with LN metastases; ∼30% “node-negative” die recurrent disease. Retrospective analyses show that these contained missed metastases. In 1996 we initiated a prospective multicenter trial test the hypothesis RT-PCR analysis sentinel (SLN) would improve prediction disease-free survival. Methods: this translational study, first identified mammaglobin (MAM) as superior molecular marker, then proceeded analyze blinded consecutive patient specimens.
