摘要: The objective of this study was to determine if housing conditions, specifically pen size and soil enrichment, had an effect on faecal glucocorticoid concentrations in the endangered pygmy rabbit (Brachylagus idahoensis). success captive breeding programme has been limited, so one hypothesis is that chronic stress due sub-optimal conditions may be responsible for poor fecundity. Faecal were assessed 50 females housed among several types at two facilities. highest found 0.37 m crates as compared enclosures ranging from 0.96 75 size. Results also indicated enrichment with a significant influence adrenal activity, based reduction excretion moved non-soil pens those soil. Last, facility observed, suggesting factors other than influenced activity these rabbits. In conclusion, measurements glucocorticoids, rabbits are best managed contain digging burrows. Pen little hormones, except where limited space and/or absence associated higher concentrations. These results underline importance monitoring programmes identify optimal husbandry management practices.
