Chapter 5 Using Large-Scale Databases to Examine Families of Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

摘要: Abstract In this chapter, we argue for the increased use of large-scale databases to examine families individuals with disabilities. To date, three main approaches have been employed. First, researchers analyzed data from among wide array national surveys that supported by National Institutes Health (NIH), Centers Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), US Census Bureau, Department Education, other (mostly federal) agencies. second approach, Vital Statistics records examined, including information about all United States’ births or deaths in a particular calendar year. third examinations more targeted children adults disabilities residing city, state, region, area. Though each has its own strengths weaknesses, can address many questions We end chapter providing two examples how used Tennessee administrative sets answer structure characteristics Down syndrome; also discuss continuing issues concerning tell us nature functioning
