摘要: Abstract The growth of pneumococcal phages at high cell and phage densities is enhanced strongly by the substitution potassium for sodium in medium. Initial titers 2 X 10(10) to 4 PFU/ml are readily obtained, concentrated stocks stable a storage buffer described here. The mechanism cation effect obscure. Phages omega3 omega8 each have linear double-stranded DNA 33 10(6) daltons per particle, with an apparent guanine plus cytosine content 47 49 mol%, as determined buoyancy melting temperature, but unusual absorbance spectrum. Efficiency plating if sufficient time allowed relatively slow adsorption, which differs several-fold rate between two phages. Morphologically, these other similar coliphage lambda longer tail fiber. Upon UV inactivation, D37 values 55 J/m2, respectively, shows multiplicity reactivation. A total 13 ts mutants been isolated from phages, representing only complementation groups; recombination occur mutants. Both provoke high-titer antisera extensive cross-reactivity against number newly
