Optimal selected phasor measurement units for identifying multiple line outages in smart grid

摘要: Thanks to the advent of clock synchronization via global positioning system (GPS), phasor measurement units (PMUs) collecting both magnitude and phase angle with higher precision have implications for monitoring performance across wide area smart grids. Owing high PMUs installation costs, developing optimal strategy placement is important monitor transmission status in area. To characterize line outage identification, this paper firstly proposes statistical model describe average identification capability multiple outages. Using model, we develop a maximize under budget PMUs. Furthermore, greedy heuristic developed bypass combinatorial search achieve sub-optimal solution at reduced complexity. The proposed methods are used benchmark PMU solutions IEEE 14- 57-bus systems. experimental study demonstrates that techniques successfully select locations, targeting on maximum capability. result shows strategies improve about 10% location outages when compared random method.
