Pyuria as a screening test for detection of urinary tract infection in patients on long-term hemodialysis.

摘要: Introduction. This study was conducted to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of pyuria detection in centrifuged urine samples patients on hemodialysis, its relationship with urinary tract infection. Materials Methods. Clean-catch midstream 90 hemodialysis (34 women 56 men) were obtained divided into two parts for examination sediment culture. Pyuria defined as presence more than 10 leukocytes per high-power field microscope. Results. Ninety a mean age 52.8 ± 14.2 period dialysis 3.3 2.3 years studied. Forty-five participants had only 16 (35.5%) them positive culture infection present 52.9% 29.4% 48.2% 10.7% men, respectively. The screening 100% 61.8%, negative predictive values 35.5% 100%, Conclusions. In because low values, should be cultured confirm infections.
