Couples and Diabetes: A 30-Year Narrative Review of Dyadic Relational Research

摘要: Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects both members of couple. However, relatively few studies have focused on the entire couple system as unit observation when examining psychosocial impact this disease. This narrative review examines literature between 1980 and 2010 uses observation. A total 49 articles were identified for review. Articles grouped by their central themes or outcomes: (1) sexual functioning, (2) relationship adjustment support, (3) culture spirituality, (4) treatment/education programs, (5) diabetes risk factor. Research clinical implications such increasing utilization dyadic analytical strategies importance assessing illness burden from each partners’ perspective are discussed. Identified benefits incorporating dyad future research practice included: understanding influence variables non-diabetic partner gender management, role disease severity management living with has spousal support emotional wellbeing, interdependent nature outcomes in areas to dysfunction, perceived burden, satisfaction, well as, an individual shared experience among couples.
