摘要: Radiative heating is one of the principal drivers tropical circulation. While we have good knowledge radiative fluxes at top-of-atmosphere and specific surface sites, observations atmospheric profiles heating, particular in cloudy conditions, been largely unavailable. The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program has begun a program to compute routinely its observational sites Nauru Manus Island, Papua New Guinea, using observed retrieved inputs water vapor condensed phase, particle size, mass. accuracy these can be assessed by comparing calculated TOA with observations. We computed every 20 minutes for several months each two 1999-2000 time period, which represent unique dataset model comparison. Here, compare this output from European Center Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) analysis, NCAR Community Atmosphere Model (CAM 3.0) Multi-Scale Modeling Framework (MMF). These three models, all run SST comparison, provide an interesting range resolution 4 km cloud resolving MMF approximately 280 grid-scale ofmore » CAM contrast between forecasting climate models. In general, results fail capture structure upper troposphere because their failure simulate cirrus stratiform adequately.« less
