A non-invasive anaesthetic method for accessing the brood chamber of the Chilean flat oyster (Ostrea chilensis)

摘要: A cost effective method to discern brooding from non-brooding specimens of the Chilean flat oyster (Ostrea chilensis Phillipi, 1844) is needed optimise current hatchery practices for this species. Accordingly, we investigated efficacy two treatments, AQUI-S® and MgCl2, in anaesthetising individuals species then mapped any subsequent mortality anaesthetised oysters. Oysters immersed 3 h solutions 20, 40, 80 100 µL L−1 exhibited no signs anaesthesia also recorded low levels (i.e. 8% or less). Conversely, oysters 30, 40 50 g MgCl2 showed between 96%–100% after whereas only 70% 60 were over time period.
