摘要: By using a pulse method, attenuation and velocity measurements have been made for aluminum glass rods in the frequency range from 2 to 15 megacycles. The sound pulses are generated by crystals waxed surface of rod. This wax joint limits band width transmitted long approach steady state conditions. reflected show evidence several normal modes which can be minimized specially shaped electrodes. Longitudinal waves delayed smaller magnitude that caused longitudinal wave breaking up into shear at boundary. effect is small if diameter rod 20 wave‐lengths or more. measured losses component proportional another fourth power frequency. first hysteresis loss found most solid materials. Rayleigh scattering due differences elastic constants between adjacent grains changes orientation. Calculated agree quite well with values. fourth‐power law holds until grain size equal one‐third wave‐length. For higher frequencies increases more nearly square Glasses fused quartz directly showing any irregularities must very size.
