摘要: This article argues that the fundamental typological distinction pertaining to reduplication is between phonological duplication and morphological doubling (the Dual Theory of reduplication). Phonological duplication, which occurs for a purpose such as providing an onset or nucleus syllable filling in featural content otherwise unspecified timing unit representation, formally related assimilation, modeled here via mechanism string-internal correspondence. It obeys locality conditions, targets phonologically defined constituents, sensitive markedness considerations. Morphological doubling, marking change meaning creating new stem type, result category root, stem, a‰x. ‘‘double insertion’’ Doubling (Inkelas Zoll 2005), not derived by correspondence therefore subject any properties characteristic duplication; two copies, morphosemantically, are independent.
