摘要: Military landscapes represent a mixture of undisturbed natural ecosystems, developed areas, and lands that support different types intensities military training. Research to understand water-quality influences usually involves intensive sampling in few watersheds. In this study, we survey design accessible headwater watersheds intended improve our ability distinguish land–water relationships general, training influences, particular, on Fort Stewart, GA. We sampled analyzed water from watershed outlets. successfully correlative models for total suspended solids (TSS), nitrogen (TN), organic carbon (OC), (ON), which dominated blackwater ecosystem. TSS tended be greater samples after rainfall during the growing season, included %Wetland suggested “build-and-flush” relationship. also detected positive association between tank-training, suggests need intercept sediment-laden runoff areas. Models OC showed negative with %Grassland. TN ON both associations %Grassland, %Wetland, %Forest. Unexpected were observed equipment-training activity %Bare ground + Roads. Future studies combine survey-based approach more monitoring timing intensity would needed better mechanisms these empirical involving Looking beyond local effects Stewart streams, explore questions about how exports coastal installations ultimately influence estuaries downstream.
