摘要: Propyl-propanethiosulfinate (PTS) is a component of Allium essential oils. This organosulfur molecule can be used as feed additive to decrease the appearance bacterial resistances caused by residues antibiotics. In previous in vitro genotoxicity studies, contradictory results were reported for PTS. this work, vivo PTS male and female rats was assessed first time, following OECD (Organisation Economic Co-operation Development) guidelines. After oral administration (doses: 5.5, 17.4, 55.0 mg/kg body weight), combination micronucleus (MN) assay (OECD 474) bone marrow standard enzyme-modified comet 489) performed. necropsy, histopathological studies also carried out. The did not show at any doses assayed, revealed absence increased MN, DNA strand breaks or oxidative damage assays. study that only highest dose tested (55.0 mg/kg) liver all groups stomach presented minimal pathological lesions organs studied. Consequently, present work confirms genotoxic it promising natural alternative synthetic preservatives antibiotics animal feed.
