Antimicrobial Resistance of Enterococcal Blood Isolates at a Pediatric Care Hospital in India

摘要: Enterococci are one of the leading causes nosocomial infections. In recent years, enterococci have become increasingly resistant to a wide range antimicrobial agents. From April October 2001, study was conducted speciate and determine susceptibility 50 isolates from bacteremic children. These were tested for commonly used antibiotics. Screening vancomycin resistance done by agar screen method, results confirmed determining minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) using dilution method. It observed that 33 Enterococcus faecium, followed E. faecalis (10), durans (4), dispar (3). Seventy-two percent strains ampicillin, 46% amoxicillin + clavulanic acid, 72% ciprofloxacin, 54% doxycyclin, 74% erythromycin. Sixty-six showed high-level gentamicin 42% streptomycin resistance.
