摘要: [1] Research at the intersection of hydrology and ecology is central to a future in which human ecological needs for water are met. We briefly identify several compelling research questions this intersection, then focus on critical area hydroecology: river stream restoration. Challenges include development science evaluate effectiveness restoration, particularly cumulative effects many small projects; restore ecosystem processes under highly constrained conditions such as below dams or urban settings; push some aquatic ecosystems beyond "restoration" boost their ability perform functions value society; feedbacks associated with thresholds restoration not possible. Meeting these challenges requires interface social disciplines hydrology, geomorphology, ecology, engineering, but hydroecology will be science.
