摘要: The global agriculture sector must undergo significant changes to meet unprecedented challenges as the population rises more than 9 billion by 2050. New and innovative techniques will be required ensure an ample supply of economically physically accessible nutritious food across globe. From deserts inner cities nonproductive expenses several regions, access a healthy diet remains elusive for many. Dramatic increases in occurrence obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, related ailments affluent countries are sharp contrast chronic malnutrition many less developed countries. Both sets problems require modified supply, tools biotechnology, although not sole solution, have role play. Agricultural biotechnology already has helped farmers around world boost their productivity grow crops ecologically fields while allowing much efficient use resources. This technology allows reduced tillage, which cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions, water runoff, soil erosion, fuel consumption. also improved pest control, increased yields existing acreage, pressure convert forests wildlands into farmland. However, technology's potential may remain unfulfilled if barriers such disproportionate non-risk-based regulatory regimens, effective disinformation campaigns, lack resources prevail.
