摘要: PURPOSE OF REVIEW Endoscopy is the first-line examination and most reliable way to get precise bidimensional assessment of superficial extent a squamous cell cancer arising within upper aerodigestive tract (UADT). Its role as cornerstone at each diagnostic step in evaluation head neck patients, both treatment follow-up, cannot be overemphasized. A number technological improvements have been introduced enhance conventional white light endoscopy UADT, order provide deeper insight into specific biological properties observed lesions. The purpose this review summarize recent trends 'biologic endoscopy' techniques. RECENT FINDINGS Starting from use toluidine blue up light-based detection systems such autofluorescence narrow band imaging, researchers devoted substantial efforts identification neoplastic tissues that can targeted by new endoscopic tools. These aids attempt assist surgeon achieving more distinction between normal or precancerous mucosa, wide range inflammatory iatrogenic modifications. SUMMARY Even though direct comparison efficacy these techniques seldom feasible due their site-specific application, different advantages disadvantages, economic considerations, limited diffusion daily practice, it nevertheless clear future UADT will strongly influenced technologies.
