Magnetic properties of icosahedral alloys: The case of Al 65 Cu 20 Fe 15

摘要: Various magnetic properties of a novel, thermodynamically stable, icosahedral alloy ${\mathrm{Al}}_{65}$${\mathrm{Cu}}_{20}$${\mathrm{Fe}}_{15}$, have been studied at low temperatures with $^{57}\mathrm{Fe}$ M\"ossbauer spectroscopy and ac susceptibility. It is found that Fe atoms bear no moment down to 1.5 K. The presence multiplicity sites in this demonstrated. argued reflects the intrinsic disorder system. analysis spectra alloys used literature terms two doublets or singlets unphysically broad lines shown be incorrect, consequently assertion based on such there being distinct transition-metal unfounded. A critical review published experimental data has performed. Arguments are presented which indicate absence local moments transition metals results from rather than symmetry.
