Intervention and Observational Trials are Complementary in Metabolomics: Diabetes and the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

摘要: Observational experimental designs are usually employed in metabolomics to elucidate pathological mechanisms underlying disease development and discover candidate biomarkers for diagnosis. However, intervention trials can also be a suitable starting point before performing validation study lager epidemiological cohorts, with great potential personalized medicine investigate how different patients respond similar stimuli. In the present work, we provide review of literature on application metabolic alterations associated diabetes, diabetes predisposing state insulin resistance oral glucose tolerance test as case demonstrate complementarity observational interventional designs.
