摘要: SUMMARY Although few studies concerning optic neuritis (ON) in Asian countries have been reported, there is no report about ON Malaysia particularly within the Malay population. We aimed to determine clinical manifestation, visual outcome and aetiology of Malays, discussed literature other populations. This was a retrospective study involving 31 consecutive patients (41 eyes) with treated at Hospital Universiti Sains commencing from July 2005 till January 2010 period follow-up ranging 18-60 months. The features, laboratory results, possible aetiology, acuity after one year were analysed. Females predominant group. age ranged between 3-55 years peaked 21-30 old. 67.7% had unilateral involvement. Pain on ocular movement observed 31.7% affected eyes. 73.3% 41 involved eyes showed equal 6/60 or worse presentation. Paracentral scotoma most common field defect noted. Optic disc papillitis proved more widespread compared retrobulbar type ON. idiopathic than 50%, while risk multiple sclerosis extremely low (3.2%) our series. 66.0% demonstrating improved 6/12 better attack. 16.1% evidence recurrence during follow-up. In conclusion, profile are comparable reported by countries.
