摘要: Abstract This paper evaluates a programme called FOCUS in Zimbabwe: Families, Orphans, and Children under Stress. The was initiated 1993 works with seven community groups, providing support to around 6500 children 2000 households. succeeds through committed volunteers, who made over 93,000 visits households 1999. Communities are mobilised by building on existing practices, using natural entry points, careful selection of local volunteers supervisors. There is good ownership, extremely low volunteer turnover, reporting systems verify that aims objectives met. maintains ethics, addresses range children's rights, sustainable mixture donor funds, FACT (sponsoring organisation) support. Issues concern include better recognition psycho-social needs, prevention protection from sexual abuse, reducing stigma discrimination, increasing child-centred approaches participation, gender imbalance among volunteers.
