Training primary care physicians in flexible sigmoidoscopy--performance evaluation of 17,167 procedures.

摘要: Abstract The flexible fiber-optic sigmoidoscope is rapidly replacing the rigid in routine screening for colorectal cancer. This study was undertaken to evaluate safety, usage pattern, and efficacy of sigmoidoscopy by evaluating outcome training results procedures carried out a group primary care physicians. Of 1,153 participants one-day workshops, 764 (66%) returned questionnaires their experiences following this training. these, 438 physicians had obtained sigmoidoscope, used it frequently, done total 17,167 examinations. The average time scope nine months. Although additional supervised suggested at workshop, 68% began doing without it. A 465 polyps 153 cancers were detected an overall detection rate 2.7% 0.9% cancers.
