摘要: Abstract This paper discusses a theoretical basis for interpretation of Martian crater obliteration. Strong evidence is found that craters are being degraded and obliterated at rate much faster than on the Moon, but slower Earth. Evidence includes (1) morphology (shallow flat floors, rims, lack “Copernican” ray craters), (2) obliteration theory, which successfully predicts form curve lifetimes terrestrial against obliteration, (3) laboratory experiments. The theory obviates need to interpret diameter distribution in terms two classes impacting bodies, as has been done elsewhere. It suggested caused by filling craters, probably deposition dust. theoretically-demonstrated mobility dust, shallow depths observed aerial transport dust Mars storms, (4) measurements indicating suspension micron-sized particles normal atmosphere, (5) depletion small predicted (6) patchy light markings preferentially northern half floors near Meridiani Sinus, suggesting deposits, (7) “resurgence” dark surfaces periodic covering uncovering aeolian (8) features basin Hellas.
