摘要: Abstract Background Dairy production in the U.S. is moving towards large-herd milking operations resulting an increase task specialization and work demands. Large-herd dairy parlor workers experience a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms upper extremity. The purpose this study to evaluate effects alternative teat scrubber (TS) cow preparation method on extremity muscle activity among workers, as well compare associated with conventional manual tasks. Methods Upper was recorded (n = 15) using surface electromyography. Participants performed multiple cycles, both TS methods. Muscle levels were then compared across Results Conventional tasks dip, strip wipe higher trapezius anterior deltoid. Biceps greatest during dip wipe. Forearm flexor extensor dip. system resulted more desirable deltoid EMG profiles, less biceps, forearm profiles. Conclusions suggest that effective reducing activation levels. also appears result increased Increases could be offset by reduced repetitiveness from three being replaced one task. Relevance industry If requirements (e.g., quality onsistency) are maintained while simultaneously cumulative loading worker fatigue, use should considered operations.
