Effect of Molybdate, Cerium, and Cobalt Ions on the Oxygen Reduction Reaction on AA2024-T3 and Selected Intermetallics Experimental and Modeling Studies

摘要: The effect of Ce 3+ , Co 2+ and MoO 2- 4 inhibitor ions on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was experimentally investigated AA2024-T3 selected castings containing intermetallic phases (i.e., Al-Cu-Mg Al-Cu-Mn-Fe). All inhibitors were found to reduce both activation-controlled mass-transfer-limited current densities associated with ORR. Molybdate be most effective cathodic inhibitors, followed by cerium ions. Cobalt(II) effective, as well. modeled considering three possible cases using a heterogeneous electrode model including an array active electrodes embedded in inactive matrix: (i) size electrochemically sites, (ii) spatial density or increase spacing between (iii) formation permeation barrier O 2 diffusion. These models consistent experimental findings.
