摘要: Abstract The pelagic stingray (Pteroplatytrygon violacea) in the French Atlantic bluefin tuna makes up almost half of catch numbers, ranking first five major species caught. Given high levels catches, more attention was given to impact this fishery order avoid future conservation issues. effects hook shape (circle versus J-type hooks) and trailing gear on retention has been investigated 10 individuals kept captivity during 125 days. Experiments showed that used commonly by fishers had a fast self-shedding rate which will allow for quick resumption feeding minimal injury means quicker wound healing better chance survival. hooks were all expelled within 6 days while circle shedding rates much longer, taking 44.5 ± 54.4 (mean ± SD). mechanism expulsion clearly described line assessed. Appropriate handling practices maximizing crew safety post-release survival identified. Other effective mitigation approaches are proposed discussed.
