摘要: Data collected through a national, randomized mail survey (response rate 50%) were used to identify reasons why veterinarians likely (i) use analgesic drugs when dehorning calves, and (ii) perceive without analgesia as very painful. Logistic regression analysis indicated that more be users the they perceived was painful (OR = 1.7, P < 0.001). Other positive influences if veterinarian worked in British Columbia or Alberta 5.9, 0.005), primarily dairy practice 3.7, 0.012) rather than beef practice. This effect of negated also owners unwilling pay for (interaction term: OR 0.25, 0.038). Veterinarians less 0.58, 0.029). However, this on pain perception offset by concern personal safety 2.7, 0.015). The results are consistent with relatively high level outreach about animal welfare among farmers western provinces. confirm many veterinarians’ approach management is influenced considerably cost. not expensive there unequivocal evidence calves causes significant distress. Continuing education should help increase usage.
