摘要: A B S T R C Sexual organs develop in the hermaphroditic, heterothallic ascomycete Ascobolus stercorarlus only when strains of opposite mating-type are paired under appropriate conditions. previous study two reciprocal compatible interactions, A-antheridial/a-ascogonial and a-antheridial/ A-ascogonial, revealed several differences between them. The present induction antheridia has uncovered other differences. Such occurred on severed hyphae, non-germinated oidia germinated but not a different sets conditions: (1) such elements were placed an agar medium containing secretions mycelium, (2) they close proximity to second group or germinating surface. This tendency for vegetative differentiate as male structures more readily than those is consistent with observation that interaction generally vigorous one. It may also be responsible condition approaching functional sexual dimorphism many mixed (A + a) mycelial cultures. THE SEXUAL PROCESS typical euascomycetes essentially haploid mycelia mating-types (Drayton, 1932; Gwynne-Vaughan Williamson, Ames, 1934; Zickler, 1937). genetic factors determine these fungi alleles, a, at single locus, first identified
