Searches for continuous gravitational waves from nine young supernova remnants

摘要: We describe directed searches for continuous gravitational waves in data from the sixth LIGO science run. The targets were nine young supernova remnants not associated with pulsars; eight of are non-pulsing suspected neutron stars. One target's parameters uncertain enough to warrant two searches, a total ten. Each search covered broad band frequencies and first second frequency derivatives fixed sky direction. coherently integrated interferometers over time spans 5.3-25.3 days using matched-filtering F-statistic. found no credible gravitational-wave signals. set 95% confidence upper limits as strong (low) 4×10−25 on intrinsic strain, 2×10−7 fiducial ellipticity, 4×10−5 r-mode amplitude. These beat indirect energy conservation within range theoretical predictions neutron-star ellipticities amplitudes.
