摘要: We summarize results of a November 2006 workshop dealing with recent research on the estimation landbird abundance from count data. Our conceptual framework includes decomposition probability detecting bird potentially exposed to sampling efforts into four separate probabilities. Primary inference methods are described and include distance sampling, multiple observers, time detection, repeated counts. The detection parameters estimated by these different approaches differ, leading interpretations resulting estimates density abundance. Simultaneous use combinations can not only lead increased precision but also provides ability decompose components process. Recent test efficacy using natural systems new radio system provide sobering conclusions about observers detect localize birds in auditory surveys. is reported deal such potential sources error as misclassification, measurement error, gradients. Methods for spatial temporal variation avian outlined. Discussion topics opinions need estimate when drawing abundance, methodological recommendations based current state knowledge suggestions future research.
