The Epidemiology of Psychiatric Disorders in Quebec's Older Adult Population

摘要: Objective: To document the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in Quebec's older adult population. Method: Data came from Enquete sur la sante des aines study conducted 2005-2006 using a representative sample (n = 2798) community-dwelling adults. Results: Our results indicate that 12.7% respondents met Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria for depression, mania, anxiety disorders, or benzodiazepine dependency. The 12-month rate major depression was 1.1% minor 5.7%. A total 5.6% reported an disorder. most prevalent were specific phobia (2.0%), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) (1.5%), generalized (GAD) (1.2%). Among those with depressive disorder, frequent observed (4.3%), GAD OCD (3.7%), mania (1.3%). Conclusions: large proportion elderly population Quebec presents mental needs. Longitudinal research focusing on individual social consequences problems adults is needed to avoid misinterpretation this finding.
