摘要: Attempting to ground scientific knowledge in a relevant and meaningful context, the use of socioscientific issues (SSI) classroom seeks encourage students formulate critical understanding interface between science, society technology. While rhetoric on SSI science education community posits lofty goals such as citizenship education, enhancing students’ connections empowering for betterment (Sadler et al. 2007), more research is now needed investigate fully potential these targets. Most focuses heavily development argumentation skills consideration multiple views deliberation about controversial climate change genetic engineering (Kolsto 2006). are indeed valuable aims centered important global issues, it also imperative that SSI-focused be situated local communities, connected their immediate interests, tied reflections upon personal dissection perspectives. Bolstering connection provides opportunities become active participants contributors (Hodson 2003).
