Because many competing modalities have been advocated, 59 therapeutic trials were examined adherence to 11 methodological criteria. Common problems included failure randomize subjects, use "blind" observers, measure compliance, adequately describe co-interventions. Applicability studies was unclear because inadequate descriptions patients, interventions, relevant outcomes. Flexion exercises, administration each three drugs, one traction method, certain manipulations supported by single reasonable validity, but the importance results their applicability particular types LBP unclear. Valid supporting corsets, bed rest, transcutaneous nerve stimulation, conventional not found. Better rigor is possible with newer techniques ensuring blindness therapy, measuring assessing ( JAMA 1983;250:1057-1062)
