摘要: Oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC), a cancer with dismal prognosis, has been increasing rapidly in incidence over the last 30 years, nowhere more so than UK. Intriguingly, it is disease predominantly among white males, but there paucity of data from England. In performing range epidemiological studies, confirmed that OAC risen five-fold West Midlands, UK, five times common men, and Caucasians. A reduced was identified subjects prostate cancer, suggesting protective effect anti-androgen therapy. Examination general practice database revealed negative association aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories statins OAC, positive inhaled steroids, number drugs side reducing lower oesophageal sphincter, used for asthma/COPD. Finally, region wide case-control study, seen body mass index, waist circumference, smoking reflux symptoms, associations diet high fruit vegetables. This work potentially modifiable risk factors may be employed to reduce adenocarcinoma, better help stratify those most likely benefit endoscopic surveillance.
