摘要: This paper presents the findings of a firm-level case study examining role multinational enterprises (MNEs) in processed food exports from Thailand. The discussion covers both FDI (foreign direct investment) and non-FDI channels MNE involvement export four major items, namely, canned pineapple, tuna, chicken, shrimp. suggest that MNEs play vital expansion begins with establishment joint ventures Thai firms (FDI channel). Then, other local engage export-oriented production enhance their competitiveness through technology spillover. As industry gains maturity, links buyers begin to far more important than channel. highly liberal trade investment policy regime Thailand, as well absorptive capability presence MNE, CP group, are elements enabling environment allows these exporting gain maximum benefits involvement. experience demonstrates conventional approach focusing on sole link between domestic manufacturing tends overlook significant performance host countries' diffused-technology industries such processing.
