摘要: The use of antimicrobial agents in the management patients infected with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) O157 : H7 remains controversial. Here, we examined antibacterial efficacy a natural product, ellagitannin from Quercus infectoria (Qi 4), against organism murine model. Streptomycin-pretreated mice were orogastrically inoculated 2×109 c.f.u. streptomycin-resistant E. O157 : H7. results demonstrated stable high level STEC present faeces animals. bacterial levels receiving Qi 4 at MIC and 2×MIC not significantly different those untreated group (t-test; P>0.05). In contrast, 4×MIC reduced numbers within 2 days 0.05>P>0.01). No viable bacteria detected between day 5 10. Similarly, 10, no organisms intestines 4-treated group, while they recovered 108–11 105–10 g−1 colons caeca mice, respectively. Histopathological findings kidneys revealed marked increase number mesangial cells matrix. Ultrastructural examination also proliferation an Cellular injury endothelial irregular borders cytoplasmic bleb formation noted. effects observed animals treated 4. clearly indicated that administration could effectively eradicate colonization intestinal tract prevent renal injury. This compound may be alternative candidate for therapeutic agent infections caused by this dangerous organism.
