摘要: Rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa commonly rely on shallow hand-dug wells and springs; consequently, aquifers are an extremely important water source. Increased utilisation of groundwater could help towards achieving multiple sustainable development goals (SDGs) by positively impacting poverty, hunger, health. However, these little studied poorly understood, partly due to a paucity existing hydrogeological information many regions Africa. This study develops conceptual model for Dangila woreda (district) Northwest Ethiopia, based extensive field investigations implementation citizen science programme. Geological point surveys revealed thin (3–18 m) weathered volcanic regolith aquifer overlying very low permeability basalt. Hydrochemistry suggested that deep within fractured scoriaceous zones the basalt is not (or poorly) connected groundwater. Isotope analysis well monitoring indicated flow paths necessarily coincident with surface paths.
