摘要: Abstract Claviceps sorghi conidia germinated on exserted stigmas of male sterile sorghum within 1–2 days inoculation in conditions high humidity and mean diurnal temperature fluctuations generally the range 15–30 °C. Hyphae grew through pollen transmission tracts style, entering ovary wall 3 days. Stigmas did not show any gross response to infection, susceptibility persisted for several after floral gaping, though infection was most readily achieved by inoculating gaping florets. Direct via can occur but is probably a significant means pathogenesis under natural conditions. Six inoculation, hyphae pathogen were erupting from lower aspect outer also invading ovule chalazal region. Honeydew, containing large numbers conidia, exuded infected florets 8–10 inoculation. Infected eventually produced typical sclerotia C. sorghi. Detailed definition initial path ergot facilitates discussion possible mechanisms disease resistance with respect indigenous India.
