摘要: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, caused by human virus (HIV), is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Southern Africa. Phytomedicines are an integral part African health care. The flora composed at least 23 400 taxa. Despite this richness, only handful botanical products have been assessed for activities against HIV. This study aimed to summarize the potential plants, based on their composition established bioactivities, as sources agents manage HIV symptoms retroviral therapy. At 109 plant species from 42 families 94 genera that found Africa were shown or actual Only 12 these 6 10 harbour anti-HIV properties. Phytochemicals include β-sitosterols, terpenoids, glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, triterpenoids, tannins alkaloids, which properties, near cosmopolitan presence across region. Bioactivities multiple phytochemicals comparable those standard allopathic antiretroviral drugs. Research determine identified other including clinical trials, long overdue.
