摘要: Atomic relaxation in the presence of a strong coherent optical field is examined. Contrary to popular practice, we find that Bloch equations do not apply when applied enough saturate transition. The component induced polarization phase with lives longer than out-of-phase component. One important consequence pulse durations for adiabatic inversion atomic levels need be short relative transverse time atom if amplitude sufficiently large.
