摘要: The Amazonian Manatee Trichechus inunguis (Natterer, 1883) is the only exclusively freshwater sirenian and smallest of living species. Its inability to reduce peripheral heat loss limits its distribution tropical waters. species endemic region, being distributed throughout Amazon basin, occurring mainly in calm waters lakes. has been commercially exploited since 1542, with meat hide main products extracted. This commercial exploitation, combined their very low reproductive rate, seriously reduced manatee population. Therefore now considered an endangered Although it protected by most countries where occurs, there no law enforcement, still captured Amazon. Data on general biology, physiology management Manatee, as well status recommendations for conservation, are presented.
