摘要: There is strong evidence that biologic factors underlie bipolar disorders. Functional imaging techniques allow a closer evaluation of the pathophysiology disorder thereby correlating disease state with its neurobiology. This article reviews neurobiology illness as measured by single-photon emission computed tomography and positron tomography. Depressive symptoms, such attention deficits, cognitive impairment, amotivation depressive mood, may be associated reduction in regional cerebral blood flow or metabolic rate prefrontal cortex, limbic system, paralimbic regions. Studies focusing on manic phase have described left-right asymmetry favor right basal temporal cortex dorso-ventral less perfusion than dorsal cortex. Neuroactivation studies confirm presence executive dysfunction at least subgroup patients during remission period. These provide physicians predictive treatment response, relapse, recurrence, enabling optimization interventions.
