摘要: The advent of the internet and smartphone technology has allowed dietary assessment to reach 21st century! variety foods available on supermarket shelf is now greater than ever before. New approaches measuring diet may help reduce measurement error advance our understanding nutritional determinants disease. This provides potential capture detailed data large numbers individuals without need for costly time-consuming manual nutrition coding. aim present paper review new technologies measure with an overview tools available. three main areas will be addressed: (1) development web-based diet; (2) use apps self-monitor (3) improving quality through online library tools. A practical example a tool assess myfood24 (www.myfood24.org) given exploring its potential, limitations challenges. food composition database using back-of-pack information described. Smartphone used focus obesity reviewed. Many are unreliable in terms tracking, most not evaluated. Accurate consistent needed public health epidemiology. choice appropriate method tends rely experience. DIET@NET partnership developed best practice guidelines selection tools, which improve quality, consistency comparability data. These developments provide us step-change ability reliably characterise nutrient intake population studies. high-quality, validated systems important fully realise benefits technologies.
